GaugeData Privacy Policy

GaugeData ("the app") provides real-time store performance insights and search visibility tools for Shopify merchants. This policy explains what information the app collects, how it is used, how long it is kept, and how it is removed.

What we collect

Store connection information. When you install GaugeData, we store your shop's domain and a secure access credential that lets the app communicate with Shopify on your behalf. This credential is limited to the permissions the app actually needs to operate — it is not used to read your product, customer, or order records.

Store performance signals. GaugeData records lightweight, event-level signals from your storefront — for example, that a page was viewed, an item was added to a cart, or a checkout was started — so the dashboard can show real-time activity and speed health. Each signal also carries a small amount of technical context: the page path or search term involved, the general device type and browser family (for example "Mobile · Safari"), the traffic source category (search, social, link, or direct), and a random per-browser identifier the storefront generates so the dashboard can count distinct visitors rather than raw clicks. GaugeData does not record or store visitors' IP addresses, and these signals do not include names, email addresses, physical addresses, or payment details.

Billing records. If you subscribe to a paid plan, we store your subscription status and usage totals so charges can be calculated and reported to Shopify's Billing API.

What we do not collect

GaugeData does not collect or store customer-identifying information (names, emails, phone numbers, addresses, order contents) or visitors' IP addresses. The app has no need for this data to do its job, so it never asks for it. The random per-browser identifier described above is not linked to any personal information and cannot be used to contact or identify a shopper.

How long we keep it

Store connection information and performance signals are kept for as long as the app remains installed on your store, so the dashboard can show meaningful trends. When you uninstall GaugeData, Shopify notifies us automatically, and all data associated with your store — connection credentials, performance signals, and billing records — is permanently deleted from our systems.

Your rights and Shopify's mandatory privacy webhooks

GaugeData implements all three of Shopify's mandatory GDPR webhooks:

• customers/data_request — Because GaugeData never stores customer-identifying data, there is no customer-level record to return; the request is acknowledged and logged.
• customers/redact — For the same reason, there is no customer-level record to erase; the request is acknowledged and logged.
• shop/redact — When a store's data must be erased (on uninstall, or on Shopify's redaction schedule), GaugeData permanently deletes every record tied to that store, including connection credentials and all recorded performance signals.
